MSU Deceased Shooter ID’d As Anthony Dwayne McRae Released From Prison 2021 On Weapons Charges

LANSING, MI. (THECOUNT) — Anthony Dwayne McRae, of Lansing, Michigan, has been identified as the deceased suspect in a Monday night mass shooting at Michigan State University.

McRae, 43, shot three people dead and injured at least five more before turning the gun on himself Monday night in Lansing.

Michigan State University Police and Public Safety interim deputy chief Chris Rozman confirmed McRae was the man who opened fire on the campus in East Lansing last night. The incident caused a massive police response.

McRae killed himself just after 11:30 p.m. as police approached him.

Three MSU students were killed in Berkey Hall and the MSU Student Union, and five other students were injured. All five are hospitalized and their injuries are life-threatening.

A motive in the shooting is unknown.

In 2019, McRae was convicted on weapon charges and was released May 14, 2021.

He was sentenced to 18 months in state prison in November 2019 after being convicted of possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

McRae’s last known address was 128 E Howe Avenue in Lansing, about 5 miles away from the school.
