TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — Elyja Kieshaun Gibbs has been identified as the teenage victim in a Thursday morning fatal vehicle crash in Transylvania County, North Carolina.
Gibbs, 17, a Hendersonville High School Bearcats all-conference football player, was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Hendersonville Thursday morning.
According to reports, Gibbs was operating a vehicle near Crab Creek Road in Hendersonville, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle exited the roadway around 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The vehicle then came into contact with a tree before traveling down an embankment.
Gibbs, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead of injuries suffered in the wreck.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
