SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ. (THECOUNT) — New Jersey Councilman Russell Heller, 51, has been identified as the victim fatally shot in his vehicle in the parking lot of a PSE&G facility in Somerset County on Wednesday.
Former PSE&G employee, Gary T. Curtis, 58, has been identified as the suspected shooter.
According to reports, Curtis approached Heller’s vehicle and opened fire.
Police received multiple 911 calls of shots fired at the Bridgewater facility on Wednesday morning. When they arrived, they found the Milford councilman suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.
Curtis was later located deceased in a vehicle of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The deadly incident comes just one week after Eunice Dwumfour, 30, was shot dead in a vehicle. Dwumfour was also a New Jersey councilwoman in the borough of Sayreville.
Police have not established any connection between the two shootings.
