ALBANY COUNTY, NY. (THECOUNT) — Jason Benn, of Albany, New York, has been identified as the deceased suspect in a Wednesday police chase crash in Albany County.

“Jay” Benn, 49, was killed after crashing a vehicle during a police pursuit that ended near Knox on Wednesday.

According to reports, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Washington Avenue Extension in Albany, when the vehicle refused to pull over and fled. A chase ensued.

Police later found the suspect vehicle crashed on Gallupville Road near Delanson.

Benn was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of injuries suffered in the wreck.

Police say, Benn did not have permission to operate the vehicle adding the suspect was found to be in the possession of narcotics.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.

In 2012, Benn was acquitted in his retrial on charges he and two other men abducted and murdered a high-level marijuana dealer who vanished in 2010 after prosecutors said he was dumped down the manhole of an Albany sewer.
