TOOMBS COUNTY, GA. (THECOUNT) — Shalada Nelson, of Lyons, Georgia, has been identified as the victim in a Monday afternoon fatal vehicle crash in Toombs County.
Nelson, 40, was killed in a single-vehicle crash involving a possible medical emergency in Uvalda on Monday.
According to reports, Nelson was operating a Ford Fusion on Cedar Crossing Vidalia Road near J.P. Milligan Road in Uvalda, when she contacted a family member to say she was experiencing chest pains and was attempting to drive herself to the hospital. The Ford then exited the roadway and came into contact with a tree around 3:15 p.m. Monday.
Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe it’s possible Nelson may have had a medical issue that caused her to wreck.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
