AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — Walker Rexrode, of Staunton, Virginia, has been identified as the teen driver charged Monday in the Saturday fatal crash that killed fellow teen David Young in Augusta County.

Rexrode, 19, was charged with manslaughter after his passenger 19-year-old Young, also of Staunton, was killed in a crash near Staunton early Saturday morning.

According to reports, Rexrode was operating a Ford Explorer with Young as his passenger on Hildebrand Circle in Staunton, when the vehicle exited the roadway around 2 a.m. Saturday. The vehicle then came into contact with a tree.

Young was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.

Rexrode, who was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries, was later charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense), driving on a suspended or revoked license, and involuntary manslaughter.

Rexrode‘s 19th birthday was on Sunday.

Rexrode is being held at Middle River Regional Jail on a no-bond order. His first court appearance is set for June 9, according to court records.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
