ATHENS COUNTY, OH. (THECOUNT) — Justin P. Hedges, of Coolville, Ohio, has been identified as the victim in a Thursday fatal vehicle crash in Athens County.
Hedges, 39, was killed in a vehicle crash involving a dump truck in Rome Township Thursday morning.
According to reports, Hedges was operating a Jeep Cherokee on US-50 near River Road, when the vehicle came into rear-end contact with a parked ODOT dump truck around 9 a.m. Thursday. The Jeep then burst into flames.
Hedges was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma and thermal injuries.
Troopers say the dump truck driver was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
