FORSYTH COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — Jovannie Perez Sotelo, 20, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has been identified as the suspect killed following a high-speed police pursuit in Forsyth County.
“Geo Sotelo,” as identified by a family member on Facebook, was killed following a police-pursuit in Winston-Salem Friday night.
According to reports, a Forsyth County deputy attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on a Honda Accord for a “Chapter 20 violation of auto law,” on Martin Luther King Jr Drive near Rams Drive in Winston-Salem around 9:40 p.m. Friday.
The vehicle refused to stop and a police pursuit ensued.
According to investigators, the suspect fled the scene “at high rates of speed while disregarding traffic laws and traffic lights, endangering the public in an attempt to flee from the deputy in pursuit.”
The chase came to an end at the intersection of East Clemmonsville Road and Thomasville Road when the suspect ran a stoplight and crashed into a bystander vehicle, according to officials.
FCSO deputies and Winston-Salem police officers then provided first aid to everyone involved in the crash until EMS arrived.
Sotelo was pronounced dead as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.
