WALNUT, CA. (THECOUNT) — Ralph M. Barragan Jr., of Pomona, California, has been identified as the pedestrian fatally struck Thursday morning on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
Barragan, 63, an employee of Mt. San Antonio College, was “intentionally” struck by a vehicle while on-campus Thursday morning in Walnut.
According to reports, Barragan, a tram driver for a disabled students program, was found suffering from injuries suffered in an apparent vehicle strike Thursday morning at the school located at 1100 North Grand Ave in Walnut.
College President Bill William T. Scroggins said the following in a statement:
“This a heartbreaking time for the entire campus community. A death on our campus and among our Mt. SAC family affects us all deeply. Let’s pause to remember Ralph and his sincere kindness and boundless warmth.”
Barragan was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.
Authorities did not release any further details, but said the collision “appears to be an intentional act.”
The driver accused of hitting Barragan, only identified as a man in his 30s, was treated for his injuries at a local hospital. He was detained by authorities.
Their relationship to one another is unclear.
