GALVESTON COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Keith Brazier, of Galveston, Texas, has been charged with felony murder following a Friday vehicle crash that killed Mason Nelson, a beloved 14-year-old Ball High School freshman.
Brazier, 28, who had been convicted of DUI three times before this crash, was early released from prison on the same day he killed the teen in a violent two-vehicle crash in Galveston Friday night.
According to reports, Brazier was operating an SUV on near Ball High School on Avenue O near 41st Street in Galveston, when the vehicle came into contact with a Jeep around 6 p.m. Friday.
Nelson, who had just completed baseball drills, was killed in the crash. The other three passengers in the Jeep were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries, with at least one in critical condition.
Brazier sustained minor injuries in the wreck. A passenger in the SUV was transported in stable condition.
Brazier had been convicted of three DWIs before this crash, first in 2016, in 2019 and in 2021, according to court records. He was sentenced Dec. 27, 2021 to three years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility, but was released Friday just hours before the the fatal wreck, officials said.
