CALCASIEU PARISH, LA. (THECOUNT) — Mark Edward Brock, of Sulphur, Louisiana, has been identified as the suspected DWI driver in a fatal Saturday morning pedestrian strike in Calcasieu Parish.

Jonathan P. Hatfield, 42, of Lake Charles, was hit by Brock’s pickup truck around 1 a.m. Saturday in Sulphur.

According to reports, Brock was operating a pickup truck near his home at 4348 Etienne Daigle Rd., in Sulphur, when the vehicle came into contact with Hatfield, who was on-foot.

Hatfield was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.

The initial investigation revealed that arriving officials detected a strong odor of alcohol on Brock’s breath and he confirmed that he had been drinking. They also said that Brock performed poorly on a standard field sobriety test.

Brock was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with DWI and vehicular homicide.

It is unknown why Hatfield was in the isolated area leading to Brock’s home.

The cause of the fatal incident remains under investigation.
