HENDERSON COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Christopher Spencer of Tyler, Texas, has been identified as the victim in a Friday fatal vehicle crash in Henderson County.
Spencer, 61, was killed, and another man was critically injured, in a two-vehicle crash near Athens Friday morning.
According to reports, Spencer was operating a van on FM753 near FM59 in Athens, when the vehicle came into contact with a Freightliner dump semi-tractor around 10:15 a.m. Friday. Both vehicles then exited the roadway.
Spencer’s passenger, Robin Sphaler, 67, of Teague, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Spencer was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner, Felix Rojas, 46, of Murchison, was not injured in the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
