JASPER COUNTY, MO. (THECOUNT) — Roger Nichols, of Webb City, Missouri, has been identified as the victim in a Friday afternoon fatal vehicle crash in Jasper County.
Nichols, 60, a Joplin Police Department Chaplain, was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Joplin Friday afternoon.
According to reports, Nichols was operating a vehicle on East 20th Street near Osage Orange Road in Joplin, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway around 1:30 p.m. Friday. The vehicle then came into contact with a utility pole.
Nichols was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating.
