HAMPTON COUNTY, SC. (THECOUNT). South Carolina attorney, Alex Murdaugh, has been transported to a hospital in Savannah, Georgia, after allegedly suffering at least one gunshot wound in Hampton County.

Murdaugh, whose wife and son were shot to death three months ago in an as-yet unsolved double homicide, was on his way to Charleston when he experienced car trouble. He stopped on Salkehatchie Road in rural Hampton County, when the shooting occurred.

Hampton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tommy Crosby told FITSNews that investigators had called in the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to assist.

Hampton County, South Carolina, is just upriver from Savannah.

Crosby did not confirm Murdaugh was shot, but other local law enforcement sources said Murdaugh was wounded.

The extent of the injuries were not provided as of Saturday afternoon.
