GoFundMe For Fallen PA Teen Lifeguard Norman Inferrera Tops $100K

CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ. (THECOUNT) — A Gofundme set up for 16-year-old lifeguard Norman V. Inferrera III, of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, has exceeded $100,000 after the youth died in a boating accident while on-duty in Cape May County, New Jersey on Friday.

Inferrera, 16, was rowing a lifeguard boat in the ocean when the vessel was broadsided by a wave and flipped over the Jersey Shore Friday night.

Norman was knocked unconscious and other lifeguards responded immediately to his aid, police said.

The tragic accident occurred near the Reading Avenue Beach in Cape May on Friday.

“My name is Kathleen Price The aunt of Norman. While conducting a routine lifeguard patrol to keep people from getting into the rough surf, Norman’s lifeguard boat capsized. He hit his head on the boat and was unconscious. He had to be resuscitated twice and airlifted to Cooper trauma unit.

Norman‘s current condition is very grim. His brain has suffered extensive and permanent damage. In addition he suffered severe damage to one lung, damage to his liver, two broken collarbones, broken ribs and a very serious eye injury. The brain is continuing to swell and causing more damage then the original injury.
