MADISON COUNTY, NY. (THECOUNT) — Robert Scherl and Marissa Danforth, both of Cicero, New York, have been identified as the victims in a double-fatal motorcycle collision Thursday night in Madison County.

Scherl and Danforth, both 27, were killed in a motorcycle crash involving a possible impaired driver near Canastota Thursday night.

According to reports, Scherl was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle on Lake Road near Old Orchard Road in Canastota, when the bike collided with a Jeep Liberty, operated by Sara Lane of Lenox around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Scherl was pronounced dead on scene while his passenger, Danforth, was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. Both died of blunt force trauma injuries.

A subsequent investigation showed that Lane was intoxicated at the time of the crash. She has been charged with one count each of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd, Vehicular Assault 2nd, DWI, DWI Per Se, Reckless Driving and Failure to Yield Right of Way. Lane was transported to the Madison County Jail pending arraignment in CAP Court, according to oneidadispatch.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
