WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY. (THECOUNT) — Rapper DMX was hospitalized Friday following a drug overdose and subsequent heart attack in Westchester County, New York.

DMX, 50, real name is Earl Simmons, reportedly overdosed on an undisclosed substance, which triggered a heart attack, at his White Plains home around 11 p.m. Friday.

But now it seems things may have taken a turn for the better:

X is doing better than before, according to his attorney, Murray Richman. On Saturday, Richman spoke with New York City’s XXL and gave an update on the rapper’s state of health.

“He’s been in the hospital as the result of a heart attack,” Richman relayed. “He’s been taken off the life support system, he’s breathing on his own, but we are concerned. It would be disingenuous of me to suggest I’m not a worried man at this particular point. Earl Simmons, DMX, in my opinion, is one of the greatest poets of our time. And what he had to say, if they bother to listen, if they could overcome their hostility to rap, would learn a great deal.”

Reports say, the “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” hitmaker was taken to a hospital in White Plains, New York, where he remains in the critical care unit.

Sources say the rapper has “some brain activity” while another said he is in a “vegetative state.”
