OTTAWA COUNTY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Thomas Huiett, of Salina, Kansas, has been identified as the Ottawa County wrong-way driver that killed Tasha Meitler, of Delphos, Kansas. Huiett was also killed in the crash on Wednesday.
Huiett, 96, was killed in a wrong-way crash that also killed the other driver and seriously injured a child early Wednesday evening.
According to reports, Huiett was operating a Ford Escape on U.S. 81 near Salina the wrong-way, when the vehicle came into contact with a Chevrolet Traverse, operated by 30-year-old Meitler.
8-year-old Lexi Meitler was transported to an area hospital in serious unknown condition.
Tasha Meitler, a Registered Nurse at Mowery Clinic, was killed in the collision.
Huiett was also pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
