WASHINGTON, DC. (THECOUNT) — Georgetown University legendary coach “Big JohnThompson Jr., has died, it was announced Monday morning. He was 78.

Thompson led Georgetown to the 1984 national championship, built the program into a juggernaut, and took the Hoyas to three Final Fours in the 1980s.

His coaching legacy includes the recruitment and development of four players in Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame: Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo, Patrick Ewing and Allen Iverson.

A cause of death was not provided.
