ANGELINA COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — James Duke VanLue, of Tomball, Texas, has been identified as the victim in a Saturday single-engine plane crash in Angelina County.

“Duke” VanLue, 40, was killed when a small plane he was piloting crashed Saturday near Zavalla.

According to reports, VanLue was piloting a Piper, when for unknown reasons, the aircraft crashed early Saturday morning near a private airstrip off TX-147 in Zavalla.

Officials responded Saturday afternoon to a report of a plane crash. It was determined that the plane crashed sometime after 2 a.m. Saturday.

Preliminary reports say the aircraft departed Tomball and was headed to Zavalla.

Authorities found the crash site around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

VanLue was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash of blunt force trauma injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
