AR Dr Lawrence Diaz Wife Mary Byers Pleads Guilty In 2019 Fayetteville Murder For Hire Plot

FAYETTEVILLE, AR. (THECOUNT) — Mary Byers-Diaz, who was charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder of her husband, Fayetteville Family Practice doctor, Lawrence Diaz back in September, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit capital murder and was sentenced to 12 years in the Arkansas Dept. of Correction to be followed by an 18 year suspended sentence provided she has no contact with Dr. Diaz, according to family members on Wednesday.

Mary L. Byers” married Dr. Diaz on May 21, 2016, at Long Lake Resort in Poteau, Oklahoma.

The release said investigators were contacted by a cooperating individual on Thursday, September 5th stating that the person felt they were being pressured into killing Dr. Diaz by Byers-Diaz. The person said Byers-Diaz had mentioned several times that she wanted her husband dead and would offer compensation for the person completing that act, reports 4029TV.

Investigators had the individual record a conversation between themselves and Byers-Diaz on Friday, September 6th. During that recording, Byers-Diaz discussed a plan to murder her husband, offered payment of property in exchange for the act, and a promise of more property when the act is complete.

The press release said a warrant was issued for Byers-Diaz arrest on September 6th. She was arrested and transported to the Sebastian County Detention Center.

A release from the 12th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney said, she was charged on Monday, September 9th with conspiracy to commit capital murder. She will be arraigned on the charge September 11th at 8:30 a.m.
