Jacqueline Towns Passes Away After Month Long Battle With Coronavirus

MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (THECOUNT) — It was announced Monday that Jacqueline Towns, the mother of basketball star, Karl Anthony Towns has died after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

The Minnesota Timberwolves made the announcement Monday afternoon. She had been battling coronavirus for more than a month.

Minnesota Timberwolves basketball star, Karl-Anthony Towns, announced that his mother was in a coma after being admitted to a hospital after contracting coronavirus March 25.

Towns announced the alarming news on social media late Tuesday night saying his mother had contracted the coronavirus and was in a coma.

Last week, before his mom was known to have contracted the virus, Towns donated $100,000 to the Mayo Clinic to support COVID-19 testing.

Towns said his mother was not feeling well early last week and went to the hospital to be tested for COVID-19.

In the post, Towns goes on to say his mother’s condition continued to deteriorate. She is currently in a medically-induced coma and on a ventilator, reports FOX5.

Towns used part of the message to remind everyone to take this pandemic seriously and to protect your family and loved ones through social distancing.

“This disease is real. This disease needs not be taken lightly,” Towns said. “Please protect your families, your loved ones, friends, yourself. Practice social distancing.”
