DES MOINES, IA. (THECUNT) — Jason Sassman, 49, has been identified as the suspect accused of intentionally running over Des Moines woman, Lauren Rebecca Rice on Sunday.
Rice, 38, was walking her dog in the area of Beaver Ave in Des Moines, when Sassman ran her and the animal over while operating a pickup truck.
Rice and her dog, Holiday, both died at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
According to a criminal complaint, Sassman, is charged with first degree murder and animal neglect.
“Defendant did willfully, deliberately and with premeditation kill Lauren Rice by running her over with a motor vehicle,” according to the complaint.
Following the collision, Sassman fled the scene on-foot and was later taken into custody nearby without further incident.
It is unknown why Rice was targeted.
According to records, Rice resided on Mondamin Ave. The suspect lives at 4011 52nd St, in Des Moines, about a 3 minute drive from where the deadly incident occurred.
Sassman is being held in the Polk County Jail on a bond of $1 million.
