IBERIA PARISH, LA. (THECOUNT) — Tarvis Coates, of Lafayette, Louisiana, has been identified as the pedestrian fatally struck Thursday night in Iberia Parish.
Coates, 27, was killed after being struck by a vehicle in New Iberia Thursday night.
According to officials, Coates was on-foot in the area of LA-14 and Leleux Road in New Iberia around around 8:50 pm Thursday, when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with arriving police.
Coates was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
Troopers say impairment is not suspected.
Toxicology samples were collected from both the victim and the driver.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured in the crash.
