COOK COUNTY, IL. (THECOUNT) — Samuel Sahagun-Banuelos, of Lansing, Michigan, has been identified as the wrong-way driver in a double-fatal Cook County, Illinois crash that killed Keith Bowers of Merrillville, Indiana Wednesday night.
Sahagun-Banuelos, 23, and 48-year-old Bowers, were both killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 80 in Oak Forest Wednesday night, Illinois State Police said.
According to reports, Sahagun-Banuelos was operating a Toyota Sequoia the wrong-way on I-80 near I-57 in Oak Forest around 3 a.m. Wednesday, when he came into head-on contact with a Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by Bowers.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
