KAILUA-KONA, HI. (THECOUNT) — Robert Jibas, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Kailua-Kona.

According to officials, Jibas was operating a BMW X3 SUV on Ali’i Drive near Lunapule road, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway Saturday around 2 a.m. The vehicle then made contact with a metal guardrail before entering a culvert and striking a concrete construction barrier.

Jibas was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.

The cause of the deadly crash remains under investigation.

Hawaii Police Department’s Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a Coroner’s Inquest investigation and is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact Officer Kimo Keliipaakaua at 808-326-4646 ext. 229, reported BigIslandNow.
