COLUMBIANA, OH. (THECOUNT) — Daniel Shirley, of Columbiana, Ohio, has been identified as the victim of a fatal vehicle-versus-train collision Sunday in Columbiana.
Shirley, 36, was operating a vehicle when he came into contact with a train in Columbiana Sunday morning.
According to officials, Shirley was operating a Ford Fusion near South Elm Street in Columbiana, when the vehicle was struck by a passing passenger train around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Officials say they were notified by the train company that they did not see Shirley’s vehicle, but that the gates were operating properly, reports WFMJ.
Shirley was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
No one on the train was injured.
The investigation into the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
