KURILSK, RU. (THECOUNT) — A powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake was recorded on Thursday off the coast of the Kuril Islands, about 100 kilometers southeast of the Russian town of Kurilsk, according to the Japan meteorological agency.

The telluric movement was located south of Iturup Island and had a depth of 160 kilometers.

The Japanese meteorological agency said the earthquake did not generate a tsunami warning and was felt in several locations in Japan, reports Notiuno.
