Missing NC Woman Stephanie Cox Believed Dead After ‘Dumpster Diving’ At Alamance Crossing

BURLINGTON, NC. (THECOUNT) — Missing Burlington, North Carolina woman, Stephanie Cox, is believed dead after going missing from Greensboro Thursday, according to Burlington police.

Cox, 30, was believed to be dumpster diving and failed to exit the container before waste management emptied the dumpster. Police had earlier located her unattended vehicle behind a row of businesses at Alamance Crossing on Piper Lane in Burlington, according to Friday reports.

Police say they believe, Cox may have been dumpster diving when she entered the container and failed to emerge before crews emptied it into a garbage truck and transferred the waste to the dump.

Before Cox was reported missing, police say they found her car unattended near Alamance Crossing, located at 1080 Piper Ln in Burlington, NC.

Investigators say Cox may have been collecting items from a dumpster when she didn’t exit the container the before it was emptied by garbage collectors.

Burlington police said they are actively working with waste processing facilities and landfills in an attempt to recover Cox’s remains.

It is unclear why police believe Cox may have been inside the dumpster.
