DOÑA ANA COUNTY, MN. (THECOUNT) — Andrew Gutierrez has been identified as the teenage pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle on early Thursday, according to officials.
Gutierrez, 18, was killed in an early Thursday morning pedestrian-versus-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 near Mesquite, New Mexico.
Officials say, Gutierrez was attempting to run across Interstate 10 around 5 a.m., when he was struck by a passing Jeep Cherokee, New Mexico State Police said.
Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
The driver of the Jeep was not injured in the fatal incident.
The driver remained on-scene and fully cooperated with arriving deputies.
No one was cited at the scene.
Police report they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, and that seatbelts were properly used by the driver, reports ElPasoTimes.
