FLOYD COUNTY, KY. (THECOUNT) — Donald Tackett, of Pikeville, Kentucky, has been identified as the victim in a fatal head-on Floyd County crash involving a deputy and his K9 partner.
Tackett, 54, was killed in a crash near Prestonsburg on Tuesday morning after striking a police SUV head-on.
According to police, the crash occurred in Prestonsburg on Highway 321 on Tuesday, when for unknown reasons, Tackett’s vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway and into opposing lanes. The vehicle then came into contact with a police SUV operated by Deputy Kevin Johnson.
Johnson and his K9 partner, Lita, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Tackett was pronounced dead at the scene.
Weather and poor road conditions were contributing factors in the cause of the crash, reports LEX18.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
