PORTSMOUTH, VA. (THECOUNT) — Michael Lewis has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash in Portsmouth early Tuesday, according to reports.
Lewis, 61, was operating a vehicle on I-264 on Tuesday morning when he was killed in a vehicle crash.
According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred west of Victory Boulevard in Portsmouth.
Lewis was traveling in a vehicle on Interstate 264, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway. The vehicle then made contact with a substantial tree.
The vehicle then burst into flames with Lewis trapped inside.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force and thermal injuries.
Police have learned that speed was not a factor in the crash, and Lewis was not wearing his safety belt at the time, reports WTKR.
Police are still determining the cause of the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
