GRANT COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) — Charles LLoyd Finney, of Elkhart, Indiana, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Tuesday morning crash near Gas City, according to reports.
Finney, 43, was killed in a vehicle crash on Interstate 69 near Gas City around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
According to officials, Finney was operating a Honda Element SUV on I-69, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the lane. The vehicle then rear ended a parked fire truck.
The Jefferson Township Fire Department had arrived on scene to assist with the crash and was parked in front of the state police vehicle at the time of the crash. Both vehicles were then put in the middle of the road in the left lane, reports WANE.
Finney was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma.
The crash is still under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
Police say the use of alcohol or drugs are not suspected.
