Central Michigan U Student Timothy LaPointe ID’d As Victim In Gratiot Double-Fatal Crash

GRATIOT, MI. (THECOUNT) — Timothy LaPointe has been identified as the Central Michigan University student killed in a head-on double-fatal crash in Gratiot County on Monday.

LaPointe, 20, was killed in a vehicle crash on US-127 near State Street in Pine River Township on Monday.

According to police, LaPointe, a junior at CMU, was traveling in a vehicle on US-127 on Monday morning around 10:30 a.m., when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes. The vehicle then struck a pickup truck head-on, police said.

LaPointe was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CmLife.

The crash also killed the driver of the pickup truck, who police identified as 26-year-old Zachary Morgan, of Gladwin.

Morgan was pronounced dead after being transported by ambulance to the Gratiot MidMichigan Medical Center.

Police said both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
