UT Man Frederick Atkin ID’d As Victim Fatally Shot Following Friday Ogden Police Pursuit

SOUTH OGDEN, UT. (THECOUNT) — Frederick Jeremy Atkin, of Draper, Utah, has been identified as the victim fatally shot by police at the conclusion of an Ogden police pursuit that began with an attempted DUI traffic stop.

Atkin, 42, was killed in an officer-involved shooting in South Ogden early Friday morning.

According to police, the shooting occurred in the area of 4000 South & Wall Avenue in Ogden, UT.

Police say, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a possible impaired person when the driver failed to pull over.

A pursuit was initiated by the South Ogden police.

During the pursuit, officers successfully deployed a spikestrip on Atkin’s Ford Mustang.

When Atkin’s vehicle finally came to a stop, at some point, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Details are still limited at this time, but ABC4 is reporting that a single South Ogden police officer discharged his service weapon fatally striking Atkin.

Per protocol, South Ogden has placed the involved officer on paid administrative leave.
