BURLINGAME, IA. (THECOUNT) — Nicholas James Swanson, of Shenandoah, Iowa, has been identified as the man killed in a single-vehicle crash early Monday in Osage County, according to authorities. A 16-year-old Carbondale boy was injured in the wreck.
“Nick” Swanson, 20, a former Shenandoah Mustangs football player, was killed and a teen injured in an early Monday morning crash near Burlingame, Kansas.
According to officials, Swanson was operating a Ford Mustang on US-56 near E Santa Fe Ave in Burlingame, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway. The vehicle then struck a grouping of trees before coming to a rest in a creek bed around 1 a.m. Monday.
Swanson was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
The crash reported noted the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the violent crash.
A passenger, William Vance Rhoades, was reported to have suffered minor injuries and was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. The patrol said Rhoades wasn’t wearing a seat belt, reports CJOnline.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
