LAKELAND, FL. (THECOUNT) — Lakeland Police Officer Ken Foley has been identified as the victim found unresponsive inside his patrol vehicle while on duty Wednesday.

Officials say, Foley, 57, suffered an unknown medical episode and died while on break seated in his cruiser, according to a news release.

The 29-year veteran of the force was found inside the vehicle by responding officers after dispatch were unable to contact him via his cruiser radio.

Efforts were made to revive Foley, but were unsuccessful, reports Officer.

Lakeland PD took to Facebook to post of Foley’s passing:

“Our hearts were broken earlier today as we lost a great officer and a 29-year member of our LakelandPD family. Officer Ken Foley was found unresponsive in his patrol vehicle after dispatch was unable to contact him via radio. It is believed that Officer Foley suffered a medical episode while on break sitting in his car. He was just 57 years old. We want to thank all of the emergency professionals who worked so hard to care for Officer Foley.

Please keep Officer Foley’s family and all those who loved him in your thoughts and prayers. Many people are grieving this huge loss to our agency and our community.”

An exact cause of death was not provided by officials.

The investigation into the death is ongoing.
