NEW ORLEANS, LA. (THECOUNT) — New Orleans police are responding after multiple people were shot on Canal Street Sunday morning, according to reports.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Canal, between Bourbon and Chartres Streets, reports WWL.

Crowds were packed into the French Quarter and Canal Street for the Bayou Classic and Thanksgiving holiday weekend when shot rang out Sunday morning.

Police said a suspect has been apprehended near the scene.

No details were given on how many victims or their extent of their injuries, although initial reports said several were taken to University Medical Center for treatment.
