GREENSBORO, NC. (THECOUNT) — Greensboro, North Carolina police have arrested Alan Ray Brown on Wednesday and charged him with murder in connection to a deadly aggravated assault resulting in the death of Steve Barnett.

Barnett, 56, who was fatally assaulted last month in an aggravated assault homicide, died from his injuries last Saturday.

Barnett was assaulted near W. Terrell St, about a 3-minute drive from his Flag Street residence in Greensboro.

According to WXII, Police responded to 517 W. Terrell St. at about 12:50 a.m. in reference to a subject unconscious in the front yard, according to officers. The man was transported to a local hospital.

The attacker was described as a dark-complexioned black male wearing a white T-shirt who possibly fled the scene on foot with a black fanny pack over his shoulder, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
