The Single Paragraph In The NFL Waiver That Caused Kaepernick To Baulk-A-Walk His ‘Last Chance’ Workout

ATLANTA, GA. (THECOUNT) — Colin Kaepernick was presented an over 1,200 word waiver concocted by the NFL in a “take it, or leave it,” moment heard around the sporting world.

As well all now know, Kaepernick left it, bolting from his arranged workout and moving it 60 miles away.

The NFL and Kaepernick had two entirely different approaches to the legal issues going into Saturday’s doomed workout. One difference with length. The NFL waiver was more than 1,200 words while Kaepernick’s retort waiver clocked in at a scant 268 words.

One particular paragraph that was troubling for Kaepernick reads, “In consideration for the opportunity to participate in the workout, Player [releases the NFL from all liability] – arising out of, occurring during, or related directly or indirectly to the workout,” reports TMZ on Monday.

Kaepernick refused to sign the waiver the NFL initially presented to his camp, and countered with a much shorter version of his own, which the NFL ultimately rejected.

TMZ claims that Kaepernick was more than willing to sign a waiver that specifically released the NFL from any legal liability if Kaepernick got injured during the workout. But, he felt the NFL’s waiver could be construed as much broader than that — and may have prevented him from bringing any future action against the NFL based on violations of employment laws or the collective bargaining agreement.
