Philly Father Uses Baby As ‘Human Shield’ During Drug Deal Gone Wrong Baby Shot Multiple Times Including Head & Buttocks

PHILADELPHIA, PA. (THECOUNT) — Nafes Monroe has been identified as the Pennsylvania father arrested after literally using his infant child as a “human shield during a shootout in a drug deal gone wrong.

Monroe, 25, was arrested in connection with the October 19th shooting where an 11-month-old boy was shot multiple times, including once in the head and twice in the buttocks, after his father used him as a “human shield” during a drug deal turned shooting, authorities said.

Monroe appeared uninjured in his mugshot.

Police say, the father took the baby along with him to perform a drug deal along with his girlfriend and another man. According to the district attorney, Monroe brought the infant along believing that its presence would “prevent violence.”

The child was shot once in the head, once in the neck, and twice in the buttocks, reports KLFY.

Instead of taking the baby to the hospital, police say Monroe drove to a home in the 4900 block of North Camac Street. Later, he dropped the boy off at Einstein Medical Center, and left.

The boy was later transferred to St. Christopher’s Hospital and is still in critical condition.

Monroe was charged with recklessly endangering the life of another person and endangering the welfare of a child.
