BIG SANDY, TX. (THECOUNT) — James Samuel Cabaniss has been identified as the Winona, Texas man killed in a Tuesday night single-vehicle crash, according to Wednesday morning reports.
Cabaniss, 57, died following a Tuesday evening crash that DPS investigators say occurred after 7 p.m. on River Road near Big Sandy in Upshur County.
Cabaniss was operating a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed when he crashed in a left-hand curve in the roadway. The vehicle then crossed centerlines and exited the roadway. The vehicle came to a rest after coming into contact with a group of trees.
Cabaniss was not wearing a seatbelt, reports EastTexasMatters.
He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma.
The crash remains under investigation.
