MA Police Detective Brian Fanion Indicted After Prosecutors Say Wife Amy Didn’t Commit Suicide

WESTFIELD, MA. (THECOUNT) — On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, Westfield, MA., first responders were called to the scene of a possible suicide at the home of Westfield Police detective Brian Fanion, and his wife Amy Fanion.

Brian Fanion, 55, was on duty, when he called 911 and told operators his wife had committed suicide using his service revolver while he was on-duty, at home for lunch.

Amy Fanion, 51, was found deceased at the North Road residence of gunshot injuries.

On May 9, 2018, a post-mortem examination revealed that Amy died as the result of a gunshot wound, however, a manner of death was left undetermined pending additional analysis.

By the investigation of the Hampden District Attorney and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit, a search warrant issued for Brian Fanion’s residence. Forensic examinations of the residence later turned up “incriminating evidence,” according to prosecutors.

During the course of the investigation, numerous interviews were conducted, and various investigative resources were utilized. Experts in ballistics and pathology were consulted in order to advance the investigation, reports Hampdenda.

On Wednesday of this week, (November 6, 2019,) a Hampden County Grand Jury issued an indictment against Brian Fanion on Murder in the First Degree in the murder of his wife. He was arrested at his home by the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and booked into jail on Thursday where he is being held on a no-bond order.

His next scheduled date at the Hampden Superior Court is scheduled for January 9, 2020.
