4.0 Earthquake Strikes Anchorage Friday Followed By 3.0 Near Nikiski

ANCHORAGE, AK. (THECOUNT) — A 4.0 earthquake hit north of about seven miles north of Anchorage on Friday morning followed by another smaller quake in centered in Nikiski.

Reports of shockwaves as far as Girdwood and Kenai according to data from the US Geological Service.

The quake hit at approximately 11:15 a.m. and hit near the terminus of the Point McKenzie Road across Cook Inlet from Anchorage, reports KTUU.

Originally the quake was listed by USGS as 4.1 magnitude, but was downgraded to 4.0.

USGS said the quake depth was about 23 miles.
