This is a tragedy that did not have to happen if these kids followed the law. Texas law prohibits a teenage driver from transporting other teens. Kids know the law, driving is the single most important thing in their lives. But because they think they're above having to follow the rules, teens pile into cars and joyride. There's a good reason for this law- statistics show teenage drivers have a higher rate of accidents when other teens are in the car due to distractions. The driver lost control and veered into the path of another vehicle, proving the statistic. I'm not trying to be mean or pile more hurt on the families and the community, but to say Let This Be A Lesson. Parents, impress this law on your kids as much as you once did Stranger Danger and Don't Touch. I know it's convenient to let your kids carpool, but it is so so dangerous. Just remember how stupid we were as teens. Parents, Schools, Police use this as a lesson. I'm taught HS for many years, so I fully understand the importance of car safety. I lost several students to accidents, all due to reckless driving.
