HOUSTON, TX. (THECOUNT) — Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale reportedly lost more than $13 million big ones after the Astros lost to the Nationals in World Series Game 7.
McIngvale’s massive (losing) bet on the Houston Astros would have netted him at least $25 million.
The popular Houston area businessman told Darren Rovell that he would do it again without question.
“I feel like I hedged perfectly. …I would have loved for the Astros fans to win, but we had two bad games. My mattresses obviously had profit baked into them. I would do this again tomorrow — and I probably will. It’s fun to be part of the greatest story in gambling history,” reports 12News.
Darren Rovell via Twitter:
“@darrenrovell “Mattress Mack” spent a lot of time & money flying around the country gambling to hedge his $20 million in liability from his “Astros win” promo. He wanted to give away the mattresses & furniture. With the Astros down 4 into their final at bats, the realization is setting in.”
Before the massive loss, Alex Bregman chatted with Mack during batting practice when Mack mentioned his mom.
Bregman went into Game 7 of the World Series with a heavy heart after his grandfather died a few hours before the game.
“Well if you see her today, she’s not doing really well … my grandpa died about two hours ago,” Bregman told Mack, reports KHOU.
