SHERMAN, IL. (THECOUNT) — Kaylee Mehochko has been identified as the Quincy, Illinois teenager killed in a submersion vehicle crash in a golf course pond in Sherman on Sunday night, according to reports.
Mehochko, 16, died Sunday after her vehicle plunged into a golf course pond in Sherman, Illinois, around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night, the Sangamon County Coroner said.
Coroner Cinda Edwards said Tuesday that Mehochko was recovered from a sunken vehicle at the scene by Springfield Fire Department divers.
Edwards said CPR was started at the scene and Mehochko was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Edwards said the cause of death was drowning, reports WGEM.
Edwards said Mehochko was the driver of the vehicle. She said a passenger was able to exit and swim to safety. ISP said the passenger had non-life threatening injuries.
The Sherman Police Department and the Illinois State Police are both investigating the incident.
