HOAX? Coast Guard Suspends Kennebunkport Search For Father Children In SOS Capsized Boat Call (Audio)

KENNEBUNKPORT, ME. (THECOUNT) — The U.S. Coast Guard made the call to suspend the search At 8:20 a.m. on Sunday for a missing man and three children they had been looking for since Saturday morning after receiving an SOS, according to Sunday morning reports.

The search was in response to the Mayday call placed at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The man reported his boat capsized in the water about 10 miles off the coast of Kennebunkport. Communication with the man was lost about noon. Audio of the call can be found below:

“It’s never an easy decision to suspend a search, said Lt. Matthew Odom. “Barring new developments, we will stop searching.” Odom said he has no further information on the identity of the man, or registration information on the vessel, reports SeaCoastOnline.

Some Twitter comments on the USCG feed last night were suggesting the call might have been a hoax. Odom said at this point, they can’t say anything for sure.

On Saturday, the Coast Guard was conducting a search off the coast of Kennebunkport after a man and three children sent a distress call and then went silent.

The U.S. Coast Guard says it received a message for help from the group around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 5. They had been aboard a 14-foot boat when they ran into trouble. Before their last communication, the Coast Guard was told the group was all wearing orange life vests.

The search area extends ten nautical miles to the east off a stretch of coast from Kennebunkport to Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, reports NewsCentralMaine.
