WINDSOR LOCKS, CT. (THECOUNT) – Firefighters responded to a large fire from an aircraft crash at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.

The airport confirmed on Wednesday morning that it is closed.

“We can confirm that there was an accident involving a Collings Foundation World War II aircraft [Wednesday] morning at Bradley Airport,” it posted to Twitter. “We have an active fire and rescue operation underway. The airport is closed. We will issue further updates as information becomes available,” reports WFSB.

Fire officials confirmed that a B-17 crashed and that the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded.

The National Guard also reported that the plane was a historic aircraft, but would not comment on whether or not anyone was hurt.

State police said they also responded to the scene.
