FAIRFIELD, OH. (THECOUNT) — The bodies of a father and his 6-year-old daughter were recovered overnight Tuesday after a pickup truck was found submerged in a golf course pond, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

Not long before the deadly incident occurred, police said they received a call about someone “doing donuts” on a golf course nearby. When they arrived, nothing was observed.

Police estimated the pond to be about eight to 10 feet deep.

Before officers arrived, a 4-year-old boy was spotted surfacing out of the water by a passerby. The passerby then dove in and rescued the child from the water. The 4-year-old was treated at the scene and was reunited with his mother, police said.

The Fairfield Police Department said right now, the incident does not appear intentional. Day said they aren’t allowed to release the names of the victims, but said the father had an active warrant for his arrest for probation violation.

Police said the pond, located near Villages of Wildwood, 5877 Ross Rd in Fairfield, OH, is part of what used to be a golf course that ran through the apartment complex, but the area has since grown over, reports WLWT.

The bodies were taken to the Butler County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

Day said investigators have been talking with witnesses to determine the cause of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
